Staff Electrical Design Engineer

Location: Dublin, California and Austin, Texas

Role:

Amber Solutions is seeking a Staff Electrical Design Engineer to lead our platform product designs. The individual must thrive in a fast-paced innovative environment defining architectures, creating schematics, working with PCB layout designers, bringing-up new hardware designs, and supporting customers and partners. You will lead all aspects of electrical board design, including electrical components selection, printed circuit qualification, and communications design. You will develop design collateral and are responsible for the success of the implementation.

Responsibilities:

  • Full responsibility for success of the hardware design implementation
  • Research innovative design solutions and products in partnership with the Marketing, Industrial Design, and software team members
  • Develop internal and external documentation including schematics, PCB layouts, design guides, test hardware, and procedures
  • Provide technical leadership in evaluating, understanding, and integrating home automation solutions
  • Develop tools to assess/troubleshoot quality and health of our systems
  • Deliver detailed functional and design specifications for the software
  • Work closely with our applications developers to tailor our network infrastructure for emerging “Internet of Things” applications
  • Propose and execute prototype projects that introduce an innovative solution to new or existing problems

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering with at least 8 years of experience with consumer products
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal, with technical and non-technical cross-functional teams
  • A keen, flexible and aggressive intellect with superb conceptual thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with a variety of design capture tools
  • Ability to coordinate and manage 3rd-party PCB layout resources
  • Digital, analog, and power design experience with integrated circuits, processors, microprocessors, encryption, memory, and power circuits
  • Excellent teamwork skills
  • Global travel for OEM support
  • Must be authorized to work in United States without company sponsorship

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Bluetoothand Wi-Fi implementation experience
  • Design and develop firmware for embedded devices applicable for our smart home solutions
  • Design and develop networking for home automation solutions using both wireless and wired physical layers
